Angels are God's servants. Though most of the time unseen, yet they are always there to protect, guide, and cheer us up. I have several 'Angel stories' while serving as a missionary here in Korea and I want to share a couple of them.

It happened last winter. I needed to go to the Philippine Embassy to renew my passport. I tried asking my friend to come with me because she knew where the embassy is located but she didn't feel like going out on such a bitter cold day. Instead, she gave me a simple sketch on a piece of paper. So, with a little information about the embassy's whereabouts and a subway map,I went out alone. I followed my friend's direction carefully and I arrived at the right subway station. But when I exited, I found myself in downtown Seoul, with buildings soaring high and people just came rushing by! The sketch didn't say whether to turn right or left. I looked for some maps of the area but didn't find one. And I couldn't read what was written around. I tried asking some people but nobody wanted to talk to me in English! I began to panic sensing that I was lost. I didn't know where to go and I already felt very cold. So I sent a quick message to heaven. Then I heard a soft voice behind me that said 'Excuse me, can I help you?' It was spoken in English! I turned around and saw a smiling lady. I told her about my dilemma and she led me to a building. When I saw the Philippine flag, I knew I was in the right place. I turned to thank her, but she was gone. An angel? I believe she was.

Here's another one. Few months ago, a missionary friend who was in desperate need for some cash called me up. She already called several friends but nobody wanted to lend her the money she needed. It was a 'big' amount for us considering the allowance we were receiving. But it was an emergency and I knew how she felt that time. To be able to give her the amount, I needed to withdraw all my savings in the bank. And I exactly did that. But I found out that the money wasn't enough! In my wallet was my food allowance for the whole month. Adding it to the money I withdrew, I met my friend's needs. I actually gave all! She was so thankful and I felt happy to be of help. I was confident to give everything because I was expecting to receive my allowance that week. The week passed. No allowance. Another week passed, still no allowance. I began to worry. My food supplies were running out and I didn't have anything in my wallet! I waited for another 3 days but still I was penniless. Two more days and I would start starving. I had nothing except for my faith that God would supply all my needs. Then teachers' day came. Normally, students would bring candies or flowers to their teachers. On this particular day, I got the biggest surprise! For lying on my desk was a bouquet of flowers and an envelope with these words written on it: 'To Ann. You are not alone. From Marina.' When I opened the envelope tears just trickled down from my eyes for in it was some amount. And it lasted until I received my next allowance! I knew she was an angel sent by God that moment to meet my needs. And I also knew that I was never alone and never will be. By the way, Marina was one of my adult students attending the mothers' class.

When I was in grade 9, I attended high school in Montreal, Quebec. After school I had to walk a block downhill, then cross Rue Sherbrooke - one of the busiest east-west thoroughfares in town - to get to my bus stop. There was no crosswalk or pedestrian light, so it was a pretty dangerous crossing. I was a pretty street-savvy kid, though, and I always looked both ways before heading across. Sometimes you had to cross halfway, then check again - the traffic was that heavy.

One day I waited for the traffic to ease up so I could get across - my bus was coming, so I was in a hurry. I looked both ways, saw that it was clear, and started to step off the street corner. Suddenly I heard someone shouting from behind me, and I thought later, above me, 'Arrêt, arrêt, attends!!' ('Stop, stop, wait!!') Startled, I stepped backwards a pace or so - and in that instant a car on my left that I had not seen careened past me. If I had kept going, it would surely have hit me…

From that day on, I have remained convinced that my guardian angel is bilingual! :)

The only encounter I have KNOWINGLY had with an angel was in 1980 when I was in the very first semester of university. I lived off-campus and I was looking for a better place to rent for myself and two of my sisters. We lived in a community bordering the campus and I was told that the best way to find a place to rent was by house-to-house search. Before I left on my house hunt, I prayed for the Lord to guide me to my next house. I told the Lord that I had totally surrendered my will to Him, I would not make any decision as to where I go and which house I visit in my search. Since I was new to the area, I took along a local road map.

I kept in constant connection to the Holy Spirit, listening to Him, waiting for him to tell me where to turn and where to stop etc. He led me towards the northern side of the community (not far from where I lived) and told me to stop at a partucular street corner. As soon as I stopped and opened my small roadmap to see where I was, someone came up to me from the street that I had not yet entered. He was of my race, with no remarkable features. He had an unusual accent, but then again, since I was at a multinational university that was not surprising. He said, ‘You are looking for a place to rent, right?’ After I agreed he said, ‘There are two houses that would be suitable for you…’ and he told me the addresses of both. Then he said, ‘The first one would be OK for you, but the Landlord would make your life miserable. You should go to the second one. The Landlord is fine, but the Landlady is difficult to deal with…’ Then he told me in detail what the landlady is like and how to deal with her. He told me that if I go, I would get the house right away. He also said that while I live there I would be able to minister to a lot of people.

While he was talking, I wrote down the addresses that he gave me and then I glanced down for a second. I raised my head to thank him again before locating the address of the second house. He was no longer standing in front of me! I had just looked away for a second and he was gone!!! I looked around and he was nowhere in sight. I concluded that he had vanished because I was at a T-junction at the end of a street with nothing but an open field at the top portion of the T and sparse houses with far-away gates on either side of the street where he had come from initially. There was no opportunity for him to even run anywhere out of sight. I concluded that the Lord sent an angel to tell me where to live.

As he said, I got the house that same day, and the Landlady was just as he described her. My sisters and I lived there for the next five years. During that time, we had many opportunities to share the love of God with a wide range of people who the Lord sent our way. Our doors were always open to whoever was in need, and we provided the venue for the local off-campus cell of Seventh-day Adventist university students. The Lord placed us there to be a witness to the people with whom we came in contact, and He started it all off by sending His angel to give me the address.

According to my mother I met an angel when I was three or four. I remember the event differently than what my mom says happened. I was on the beach and got lost. I remeber walking along the beach looking for my mom and stopping at this pier where my mom eventually found me. However my mom tells me that when she found me I told her that I was swimming so far out in the water that I was swimming amoung the sailboats. I looked up and a lady in one of the boats tells me to swim to shore since my mother was looking for me. My mother believes that was an angel since if I saw a kid swimming in the water I would bring him into the boat and take him to shore myself.

I was attending a Scripture Union Youth Leadership camp and we had been given some time for reflection and prayer. I was sitting next to one of the campsite chalets when I looked up to see the awesomely big person standing next to me dressed in white robes and a golden belt. He was carrying the biggest sword I had ever seen. What was even more amazing was the sight of a huge angel standing next to every person attending the camp as well as the wall of angels around the edge of the camp. They were there to protect the campers. Isn't God good.

I have had many more experience of angels since then but the first time is always the best.

I heard the voice of an angel in different occasions waking me up from staying aslep when I needed to go to work. Was that my own conscience caring for my economy??? He called my name, it happened about 3 times in 3 different days. Did something similar happen to you?
